Continuing Competence Program
Self-Assessment
The Self-Assessment provides a systematic and organized method to identify individual learning needs. The Self-Assessment enables MLTs to recognize specific learning needs, establish a Learning Plan to maintain or develop competence, and ultimately self-direct a learning path to remain current in the profession. MLTs assess all competencies listed in the MLT Competency Profile applicable to a current or anticipated area of practice.
The data collected on the Self-Assessment is confidential and will not be shared with employers. The data may only be used in an aggregate format wherein the confidentiality of the individual data is maintained, except where allowed or required pursuant to the HPA. Furthermore, it cannot be used for conduct or disciplinary purposes, except as provided for in sections 51.1 and 52 of the HPA.

In the initial renewal year, Bands of the online Self-Assessment must be completed. In the second and subsequent renewal years, members must complete all Bands containing Core and Common competencies, and additional Bands containing Selective competencies applicable to current or anticipated area of practice. Desire to Learn (DTL): I am competent in my current area of practice; however:
- I would like to SUPPLEMENT my knowledge, skills, judgments, and attitudes in this competency, or
- I wish to CHANGE OR EXPAND my professional role and responsibilities.
Advanced (ADV):
- I have ADVANCED knowledge, skills, judgments, and attitudes in this competency, or
- I am the individual my co-workers approach for guidance or assistance in this competency.
Note: None of the above ratings imply unskilled or incompetent professional practice.
If uncertain how to rate a particular area or competency, individuals may consult a peer or the College for assistance.
