Council
Dan Woods, MLT, BSc, CIC – President
Dan graduated from the Medical Laboratory Technology program at BCIT in 1986 and completed the University of Alberta Medical Laboratory Science program in 2000. He has been involved with the BCSLS, serving in the roles of professional development and the presidential chain, and volunteered as the chair of the CSMLS Scientific Advisory Panel and chair of the Canadian Journal of Medical Laboratory Science in 2007. Dan has worked in various laboratories in BC and Alberta and most recently assumed leadership of the Infection Control and Sterile Processing program in the Alberta Health Services David Thompson Region. He is looking forward to working with the leadership of the ACMLT to advance the profession through service to its members and the public.
Maurice Goulet, MLT, ART – President Elect
Moe has over 30 years of progressive laboratory experience in large hospitals, private laboratories, and rural hospital settings. He received his MLT designation in 1979 and obtained a general ART designation in microbiology, hematology, and transfusion medicine in 1985. His current position is with Alberta Health Services in the capacity of regional laboratory manager for Central Zone–West. Moe is committed to developing and maintaining processes that promote public protection and is confident that his diverse background in laboratory services will also serve him well in helping to advance the profession. He aims to work in partnership with the members of the ACMLT in fostering pride and professionalism as they endeavour to enhance public safety and protection.
Myron Pilip, MLT – Past President
Myron graduated from the University of Alberta in 1987 with a BSc in genetics. He then received his RT cytology in 1990 at NAIT, and has worked in numerous cytology labs in the city since graduation. Myron has been working with his current employer, DynaLIFEDX Diagnostic Laboratories, as a cytotechnologist for the last 15 years. He has a wonderful wife, Joy, and two lovely daughters, Natalia and Pearl. He loves the outdoors and sports, especially soccer and fishing.
Christina Dixon, MLT, BSc – Councillor
Christina graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BSc in biology and an advanced certificate in anatomy and cell biology. She then completed her advanced diploma in clinical genetics at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences in Toronto. Her career in clinical genetics began in Saskatchewan at the Cytogenetics laboratory. Christina then moved to Calgary for employment with Calgary Laboratory Services in the Cancer Cytogenetics lab. Christina completed her presidential term with Council and has been reappointed for a three-year councillor position.
Leila Kipke, MLT – Councillor
Leila is a graduate of the NAIT Medical Laboratory Technology program, where she now teaches. She is a strong proponent of CE and believes education is a lifelong endeavour. Leila’s medical technology background spans both hospital and private lab settings. She began her career as a bench tech in Hematology/Transfusion at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. After two years, she transferred into the Microbiology department, where she has worked in all capacities, including bench tech, teaching tech / preceptor, supervisor, and manager. With the economic cutbacks in the mid-1990s, she moved to the private sector lab at Dynacare Kasper and worked there until she took her position as the microbiology instructor at NAIT in 2004. Leila enjoys meeting new people, expanding her knowledge, and taking on new challenges. She is looking forward to exploring this new area of medical laboratory technology. In her non-work hours, Leila is an avid soccer player as well as a coach. She also enjoys exploring the world and putting in relaxing work hours in her yard.
Cody Mah, MLT – Councillor
Cody graduated from the University of Alberta in 2006 with his BSc in Biology. He later went on to complete his MLT education at NAIT in 2008. After graduation he was hired in the Histology department at DynaLIFE Diagnostics. Cody recently accepted an employment opportunity with Somagen Diagnostics as an Applications Specialist. Cody is the Technical Specialist for electrophoresis, hemoglobin A1c, and allergy testing for western Canada. Cody has been elected for a three-year term on Council.
Donna Marquardt, MLT, BSc – Councillor
Donna graduated from the Medical Laboratory Technology program at NAIT in 1988 and completed the University of British Columbia Medical Laboratory Science program in 1991. Donna volunteered with the former ASMLT as a Communications Committee member and also with other professional committees in other fields. Donna has worked in various laboratories in Alberta as well as an FDA regulated environment and hospital laboratories in the United States. In 2000, Donna obtained a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology and has since owned and operated a business and worked in sales. In 2007, Donna returned to work as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with Alberta Health Services. Donna enjoys public speaking and is looking forward to learning new knowledge and sharing her experiences with College Council in her three year term.
Melody Montgomery, MLT – Councillor
Melody completed her BSc in Integrated Science at Carleton University. After working in research labs, she entered the Clinical Genetics program at BCIT. She now works for Calgary Laboratory Services in the Cancer Cytogenetics lab. Melody served as the student representative on the Clinical Genetics Program Advisory Committee and was an alumni representative for one year following graduation. She hopes she can use her past experience along with her enthusiasm to contribute to Council.
Mikalis Mousouliotis, MLT – Councillor
Mik graduated from the MLT program at SAIT in 2009. While there, Mik was selected as a student representative during the SAIT advisory meetings. These meetings concerned changes to the curriculum/occupation and made him eager to become part of groups that can effect change for the betterment of the program and the profession. Mik began working for Calgary Lab Services at the Rockyview Hospital and found the fast-paced atmosphere and exceptional attention to detail exciting. After a short time, he was offered a position at Alberta Business and Educational Services (ABES) to coordinate and instruct the Medical Laboratory Assistant program. ABES is currently the largest trainer of MLAs in Western Canada and works in affiliation with Calgary Lab Services and Alberta Health Services. As a recent graduate, Mik offers a fresh outlook on the medical laboratory profession and hopes to pass on his knowledge to students. Teaching has increased his awareness of the utmost importance of structure, policies, and procedures. Mik looks forward to continuing his experience as a councillor for the ACMLT; he completed a one-year term with Council and has been reappointed for a three-year councillor position.
PUBLIC MEMBERS
Kenneth Gall
Ken was born in Peace River, Alberta, and has spent most of his life in that community. His career as a financial advisor with Clarica spanned 32 years. Ken has been very active in the community and involved in a number of service clubs: he served as president of the Rotary Club and chairman of the Peace Health Foundation, which raised over $150,000 for the operational costs of the Ophthalmology Program at the community health centre. Ken also served two terms on the board of the Peace Health Region, and served on the board of governors of the Grande Prairie Regional College. This experience will make Ken a valued member for the ACMLT. His hobbies include most outdoor activities, curling, golf, and fishing. Ken is looking forward to serving the ACMLT and to the challenges it will bring.
Ira Goldman
Ira has diverse experience serving the public. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and has a legal background. He has had previous Board experience having been a member of the Landlord and Tenant Board with the City of Edmonton.
